Global Compact supports the Vodohray 2010 summer camp
08.08.2010 Kyiv For several years Kraft Foods Ukraine, a Global Compact partner, has supported camps for orphans. This year the company - with support from the Global Compact initiative, Friends of Children project and UNDP / GEF Strengthening governance and financial sustainability of the national protected area system in Ukraine - organized the Vodohray 2010 summer camp for orphans.

Launch of the first telemedicine network in Ukraine
27 July 2010, Kyiv - MTS, Ukraine Ministry of Health and the UN have launched Ukraine’s first medical telecommunications network. The capabilities of the network were displayed through a press conference that was channeled through video communication. This enabled representatives from Kiev to participate in the event - organized by the Ministry of Health - and also allowed those who came to Uzhgorod and Donetsk regional hospitals to see how the telecommunications technology works in practice.

Summer Institute for lecturers on CSR
July 10, 2010 A week long summer institute for university lecturers took place between the 4th and 10th July in Cherkasy, with support from Global Compact, and the Ministry of Education and Science in Ukraine. Titled: ‘Technology and methods of teaching the CSR course’, it was organized by the Association for Management Development and Business Education.

New York, 23-25 June 2010 Global Compact Leaders Summit brought together more than 1,200 leaders from business, civil society and governments to assess state of corporate responsibility and chart course towards new era of sustainability. The Summit took place in New York on 23-25 June and was chaired by UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon.

Global Compact Network in Ukraine was recognized as one of the top performer networks in 2009
June 23, 2010 the UN GC Annual Local Networks Forum (ALNF) took place in New York. Networks’ representatives from all around the world meet annually to share their experience and discuss their perspectives on local networks’ development. This year ALNF took place in New York in conjunction with the UN GC Leader`s Summit.

Regional media reveal attractive CSR performance indicators projects
26 journalists from 14 regions within Ukraine participated in a survey on 3rd June, 2010, to identify what major factors contribute to their choices when reporting on CSR projects. The workshop and survey were launched by the UN Global Compact (GC) and PR agency- CLEVER Group.

Ukraine's first brochure on non-financial reporting
June 9, 2010 – a new publication aims to give the Ukrainian business community tools for the development and professionalization of non-financial reporting. The two part document contains practical advice on non-financial report preparation and development of domestic non-financial reporting processes, as well as an analytical review of non-financial reporting and examination of developmental issues in the country.

2 June 2010, Kyiv: A new public information campaign titled We are cutting them from our lives has been organized by the All-Ukrainian non-government organization ‘Association of Protected Areas of Ukraine’ in co-operation with the Ukraine Ministry of Environmental Protection By proclaiming 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB), the United Nations raises awareness about the crucial importance of biodiversity. As part of annual worldwide celebrations, the UN encourages countries, organizations and individuals to take direct action to reduce biodiversity loss, as this incredible variety of life on Earth that sustains us, is in peril. Species are becoming extinct at the fastest rate ever recorded. Most of these extinctions are tied to human activities that are polluting and depleting water resources, changing and degrading habitats and altering the global climate. From frogs to gorillas, from huge plants to tiny insects, thousands of species are in jeopardy.

Meeting of the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Council
Kyiv, May 25, 2010 – On the meeting of the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Council (MAC) Mr. Rodion Kolyshko, Scientific Secretary of the Council, presented a draft of the national strategy concept framework on CSR. It provided participants with possible outline elements of CSR that should be included into the concept and major issues facing developers.

Meeting of the GC working group on Media and CSR took place at the UN House.
The participants of the working group discussed the results of the contest for journalists on writing analytical material on the CSR, and specified winners in defined nominations. The participants of the meeting supported the idea of the third competition for journalists’ announcement during the award ceremony of 2010.

Fourth international conference ‘Corporate Social Responsibility: in search of the national model’
The Fourth international conference ‘Corporate Social Responsibility: in search of the national model’ took place at the Hotel Premier Palace on April, 28. It was organized by the business and economic magazine Expert Ukraine with support from the Global Compact initiative in Ukraine. Conference participants discussed the most acute CSR issues including the trilateral partnership between state, business and society; adaptation strategies and actions of Ukrainian companies; post-crisis measures; trends in non-financial reporting in Ukraine; etc.
