Stakeholders
The Global Compact is not a traditional UN agency, but a network that exists to promote an initiative. At its core is the Global Compact Office with six UN agencies – the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO ), and the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
In addition to the United Nations, which acts as a convener and facilitator, all of the relevant social actors are represented in the Global Compact network:
- Participants
- UN agencies
- Labour, in whose hands the concrete process of global production takes place
- Civil society organisations, representing the wider community of stakeholders, and
- Governments, who defined the principles on which the initiative is based.
