First Ukrainian Business Summit on Climate Change

United Nations Office in Ukraine and Global Compact Network with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine is organizing the First Ukrainian Business Summit on Climate Change that will take place on March 24, 2009 in the hotel Premier Palace

The United Nations Secretary-General has called 2009 the “year of Climate Change” – and for good reason. This year, crucial negotiations are scheduled in relation to forging of a new global framework for climate change, such as World Business Summit in May and UN climate conference (COP 15) in December 2009. Climate change being a global issue and transcending national interests requires response from each and every country, as well as all stakeholders, including Ukraine.

The summit will address issues such as the role of business in helping solve the climate crisis through innovative business models, creating incentives and removing barriers on the policy level for more sound environmental business practices, the need for new public-private partnerships and the development of environmentally friendly technologies and effective resource usage.

Additionally during the Summit results of the Climate Change Perceptions survey will be presented. The survey having covered businesses, public and expert community of 24 regions of Ukraine and the Crimea, will provide a holistic picture on the perceptions and readiness for action in response to climate change issue in Ukraine.

The audience of the Summit will include leading Ukrainian and multinational companies working in Ukraine, Government representatives, diplomatic corps and non-Governmental organizations. More information is available here.
