The first GC Network in Ukraine Steering Committee meeting has been conducted in Kyiv

Kyiv, January 31 The first meeting of the GC Network Ukraine Steering Committee has been conducted today at the United Nations House. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide recently elected Steering Committee (SC) members with the information about the development of the GC initiative and Network in Ukraine and to discuss the GC network strategy for 2008. Also, a nomination and voting for SC Chair has been conducted in course of meeting

The event was attended by representatives of the elected GC signatories as well as the GC secretariat, and was chaired by Mr. Francis O’Donnell, UN Resident Coordinator. The full list of the participants of the meeting is as follows:

Opening the event, Mr. O’Donnell welcomed the participants, expressing great pleasure and honour to the Steering Committee and encouraged all SC members to introduce themselves and to share their vision of the Network strategy. The introductions of the SC members were followed by the presentation of the GC Network status overview delivered by Ms. Elena Panova, UN Global Compact coordinator.

Later, a voting for the Chairperson has been conducted. Mr. Jock Mendoza-Wilson of SCM has been elected the Chair and Ms. Zhanna Revnova of Kyivstar has become the Deputy Chair. “We will work very hard to meet the objectives of the GC Network and to ensure the efficiency of its activities”, stated Mr. Mendoza-Wilson.

With the Chair elected, the Network strategy for 2008 has been thoroughly discussed by all SC members and the outcome document will now be drafted by the GC Secretariat to be agreed upon at the upcoming Steering Committee meeting scheduled for February, 19. The draft of the Network work plan for 2008 will be disseminated for review of all members of the GC network and for the final approval during the General Meeting that will take place last week of February (exact date and venue will be announced later).
