The strategy and the working plan of the Global Compact Network in Ukraine for 2008 has been accepted at the General Meeting of the Global Compact signatories
27 February 2008. The fourth General Meeting of the Global Compact signatories in Ukraine was conducted on Tuesday, February 26 at the conference hall of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine. The meeting was convened to discuss the strategy and the working plan of the Ukrainian GC Network for 2008.

Ms. Elena Panova, the UN focal point for Global Compact facilitated the meeting and opened it with the presentation of the Network status report. Later, Ms. Panova passed the floor to the Steering Committee members for their short introductions to all signatories.
The introduction part was followed by two presentations delivered by the Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr. Jock Mendoza-Wilson of SCM. Mr. Mendoza-Wilson presented the Network Strategy and the Working plan for 2008 that has been drafted by the GC Secretariat, collectively discussed during the first and second Steering Committee meetings convened in February 2008 and has been disseminated for the final revision and comments of all GC signatories. The presentations were followed by discussion, the Strategy and the Working plan were accepted and the comments made by the signatories were taken into consideration by the Steering Committee.

Next topic on the agenda was the discussion on establishment of GC network working groups: by sector and by focus area, general mandate, etc. This part was facilitated by SC member Mr. Sergey Letenko of Nadra bank. In course of discussion GC signatories studied the general terms of reference for the Global Compact network working groups earlier developed by GC Secretariat and agreed upon the suggestions/proposals for the establishment of the following working groups:
By GC areas:
- WG on Environment
- WG on Human Rights (incl. HIV/AIDS)
- WG on Labour
By sectors:
- Financial sector WG
- Communication/media WG

It was collectively decided that all GC signatories will be invited to join one or more of the working groups based on their corporate interest and CSR strategic priorities by subscribing to them through online process facilitated by the GC Secretariat.
Ms. Elena Panova briefed the GC signatories about the status of the Communication on Progress reporting process and emphasised on the importance of such communication for all GC signatories. She also stressed, that two Ukrainian companies already facing the thread of being delisted from the GC signatories list should they fail to submit their COP’s on time.
The last presentation was delivered by Ms. Aleksandra Afanasieva, GC Communication Officer and unveiled the new GC logo policy and the practical tips for companies on how to get a permission to use it. Ms. Afanasieva encouraged all GC signatories to advocate widely and express their support for the Global Compact and its principles by using the “We support the Global Compact” logo.
