Contest for Journalists on the Best Analytical Material on Corporate Social Responsibility in Ukraine

It is for the third time already Global Compact Network Ukraine and United Nations in Ukraine are pleased to announce launch of the National Contest for Journalists on the best analytical material on the role of business in sustainable development.

The aim of the contest is to enhance media coverage on sustainability topics with the special focus on business involvement and increasing public awareness on the mentioned issues.

“The role of business in sustainable development as a topic for 2011 has been selected not accidentally by the organizers of the contest. The integration of environmental and social aspects into economic development is possible exclusively with the involvement of all of the stakeholders, - noted Ms. Yuliya Shcherbinina, UNDP Program Manager. Media, engaged in the creation of the information product, one of the most valuable assets of the 21st century have a tremendous role in raising public awareness as well as promoting sustainability topic. We expect active participation of Ukrainian journalists and a big number of analytical materials, since sustainable development with no exaggeration defines our future”.

Full- and part-time journalists of the printed and Internet media are invited to present analytical articles on the topic of sustainable development and the role of business, published within 1 January - 29 April 2011.

The deadline for submission is April 29, 2011.

The Jury will include leading experts in journalism and media and evaluate materials against such criteria:

  • Level of following journalistic standards, good balancing of the material;
  • Level of coverage of the topic of sustainable development and the role of business;
  • Material’s adequacy and correctness;
  • Critical versus descriptive presentation of material
  • Material’s topicality and illustrativeness;
  • Use of “real life” examples;
  • Originality;
  • No sign of work being an ordered material

The winner of the contest will attend the Annual Forum of the Local Global Compact Networks to take place in May 2011 (preliminary- Cairo, Egypt).ThewinnersofthecontestwillbeannouncednolaterthanMay11, 2011at Global Compact Network’s Ukraine(www.globalcompact.org.ua) and United Nations’ Ukrainewebsites(www.un.org.ua).

The jury of the contest includes:

  • Yuliya SHCHERBININA, Program Manager, UNDP Ukraine
  • Svitlana PANYUSHKINA, Chief Editor “Delo”

Requirements for entries’ submission:

  • Scanned copy of filled out application form on the media official letterhead with supervisor’s and author’s signature
  • Publication in printed and electronic media from 1 January till 29 April 2011 in the following formats:
  • Printed materials – scanned in jpeg format,
  • Materials, placed on information internet-resources – in text format (.doc) including hyperlinks to be sent as an e-mail attachment.

Contest winners will be announced at the United Nations in Ukraine (www.un.org.ua) and Global Compact Network’s Ukraine websites (www.globalcompact.org.ua).

According to the definition of UN Division for Sustainable Development the essence of sustainable development is in meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Business as an important actor in social-economic processes has an impact on a variety of issues related to sustainability such as environmental safety, human rights abidance, labour relations, poverty reduction, etc. The topics mentioned constitute the focus of the announced contest.
