Ukraine's Delegation attends European Global Compact Meeting in Rome
The delegation representing Global Compact Network Ukraine on 26-28 October 2011 attended European Regional Meeting and sustainability conference – both focused on Rio+20 – as well as a training session on anti-corruption principle implementation in Rome, Italy.
The sustainability conference entitled Public-Private Joint Efforts Towards Rio+20 was hosted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Local Network. The opening session sought to set an agenda for Rio+20 and beyond. Three thematic sessions followed, which addressed food security and sustainable agriculture; green jobs and social inclusion; and sustainable cities.
Approximately 150 participants, including Local Networks, Italian businesses and NGOs, were present at the conference, and notable speakers and attendees included Ambassador Giandomenico Magliano, Director of Globalization for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Professor Marco Frey, Italian Global Compact Local Network Representative; Diana Battaggia, Director, UNIDO; Paolo Soprano of the Bureau for the preparatory process of Rio+20; and Vincenzo Scotti of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the Regional Meeting of Local Networks in Europe, participants discussed preparations for Rio+20, learned about recent activities of the Global Compact Office, and identified issues and challenges as well as best practices specific to Europe. The meeting was attended by 40 participants representing 18 Local Networks: Russia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia, Ukraine, Netherlands, France, Spain, Nordic Countries, the United Kingdom, Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Additionally, a training session on the Communication on Progress and Management Model was held. The training specifically focused on implementing the Global Compact 10th principle against corruption and was attended by approximately 50 participants.
Ukraine’s delegation included Mr. Jock Mendoza-Wilson (SCM), Ms. Victoria Grib (DTEK), Ms. Maryna Saprykina (Center for CSR Development), Anna Danylyuk and Viktor Kotusenko (GC Network Ukraine’s Secretariat). Further plans in relation to the activities of the Global Compact Network Ukraine in preparation to Rio+20 will be communicated to the Network’s members in due time.
