Green Office: Practical Aspects Workshop on November 1

In order to further promote successful implementation of the Green Office practices among organizations, on November 1, 2011 "Green Office: Practical Aspects" workshop was conducted in Kyiv Mohyla Business School. It was organized by Global Compact Network Ukraine with the support of Ernst & Young company and Ukrainian ecological club “Green Wave”. Both the professionally community that inspires and brings Green office into office as well as administrative personnel in the amount of 50 people were the participants of the workshop and represented office personnel of more than 10 thousand people.

In order to make the agenda of maximum value a survey on the certain aspects of Green Office and their importance to organization was conducted. On the basis of the obtained results top 5 aspects were selected to set up the agenda for the meeting. The event’s speakers were Natalia Gozak and Iryna Myronova from Ukrainian ecological club “Green Wave”.

During the first part of "Green Office: Practical Aspects" workshop the problem of successful implementation of the Green Office (motivation, support of thetop-management in particular) was brought up. Besides that, practical solutions to the problem of choosing and purchasing “green” stationary and paper and for waste management and recycling were proposed. To apply received knowledge in practice participants took part in the fun exercise on waste management and recycling.

Thesecond part of the workshop was devoted to practical solutions for the problem of energy efficiency and water consumption in the office. Coming back to the problem of motivation, reflection game was conducted to find the ways to motivate employees and administrative personnel to implement the Green Office practices. As a result of a fruitful discussion comparison of quantitative indicators before and after the implementation of the Green Office practices and further reporting were suggested.  Among other suggestions introduced were:

  1. communicate Green Office as a company’s competitive advantage;
  2. communicate Green Office as a way to care about future of our children;
  3. present  the success of the Green office practices implementation in other countries as an example;
  4. motivate administrative personnel with the help of employees.

Additionally, representatives of “Ernst & Young” company shared their practices of rating employees’ participation in social activities of the company. The one rated as a top employee gets a reward of two extra days of vacation.

"Green Office: Practical Aspects" workshop was a logic continuation of “Green office 2.0” training, that was conducted on June 2, 2011, and brought practical solutions on the implementation of the Green Officepractices. Materials from the workshop are available for review here.
