Kyiv, 23 November, 2006. The Global Compact Ukraine Network meeting was conducted today to welcome 13 new member-companies including Ukrsotsbank, XXI Investment, Volia, Ericsson, NIKO Corporation, Ukrainian Employers Association, Kyivsky Zavod Vuglekysloty, Institute of Oil Transportation, Dolya Dytyny, Youth CAN, Centre for Corporate Citizenship, Successful Ukraine Association and Union of Enterpreneurs of Small, Middle-Sized and Privatized Enterprises of Ukraine. Opening the meeting, UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Francis O’Donnell congratulated the new members and stated, “The growing number of Global Compact members shows important trend in the Ukrainian business community giving impetus for further promotion and even more widespread practicing of corporate social responsibility in Ukraine”. He also emphasized that the Country Network in Ukraine should be a group of believers convinced that adherence to the principles of the Global Compact playing a crucial role in the national development process and in ensuring sustainable economic development. Global Compact initiative was successfully launched in Ukraine in April 2006 with the support of leading Ukrainian and multinational companies and senior representatives of Government. Following on from the launch, the total number of GC members has reached 47. Currently the Global Compact Ukraine having as its members 26 multinational and large Ukrainian companies, 10 business associations, 2 federation of employers and trade unions, 3 small and medium enterprises and 6 non-governmental organizations and other organizations are joining. The mission of the GC network Ukraine is to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Ukraine in line with the 10 Global Compact principles in four key areas of action - human rights and labour standards, environmental sustainability and anti-corruption.
