What is your company’s involvement with the Community? In Philips we have been improving people’s lives with pioneering innovations for 115 years, ever since our company was founded. Our values and our mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives through the timely introduction of meaningful innovations. In Ukraine Philips has been conducting sustainability project in educational sphere for 3 years already. We equipped 10 Ukrainian rural schools with computers. Besides, we organized lectures for teachers and supplied these schools with literature both in electronic form and hard copies. Children from these schools have an opportunity to be tested at one of the best universities of our country – Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Starting this year Philips has continued the sustainability project in the medical sphere and started the project to help people from distant and fouled regions by delivering to them medical diagnostic equipment.
What is your company’s involvement with the environment? The significant issues for our company – and our industry – in the environmental area continue to be energy efficiency, chemical content of products, take-back and recycling. We remain committed to giving our full attention to these challenges Our Green Flagship and EcoDesigned products offer environmental performance improvements and we have further increased our focus on the energy efficiency of these products. The total number of our Green Flagships on the market is more than 200. Philips is leading change in the lighting industry to increase energy efficiency. We are calling for joint action between the lighting industry, non-governmental organizations, energy suppliers and governments to replace the incandescent bulb with the many energy-saving alternatives available today.
What does your company do at workplace in the frame of corporate social responsibility? Philips values its employees as a key resource. Our company’s founders from the early days provided pensions, sick pay and medical care. Our employees across the globe can access detailed information about our Global Learning Curricula and register for courses online thanks to «Learning @ Philips» our Global Learning Portal, launched in August 2006. They can find learning programs to develop themselves and others in a user-friendly One Philips platform. Our «sense and simplicity» brand promise guides us in everything we do. It expresses a commitment to put people at the center of our thinking, to eliminate unnecessary complexity, and to emphasize the meaningful benefits of technology.
What is your company’s practice of business ethics? "Philips General Business Principles set out guiding principles on integrity and ethics in business conduct. The Philips General Business Principles (GBP) govern the company’s business decisions and actions throughout the world, applying equally to corporate actions as well as the behavior of individual employees when on company business. To encourage and enable employees to report violations of the Philips General Business Principles and to submit complaints anonymously, if desired, Philips has implemented the One Philips Ethics Line. This ensures that all alleged violations are registered and dealt with within one system. The One Philips Ethics Line also urges everyone to take responsibility; and that’s what sustainability is all about. Doing the right thing – everyday, everywhere."
